The main riff consists of chords that are broken up into single notes (arpeggios). Store the chords visually in your memory and lay them down before you start playing. Use alternate picking and a hammer on/ pull off or for the triplet on the third beat.
Frusciante uses his thumb for chords with a bass note on the E string, just like his great hero Jimi Hendrix. So also in the chorus of this song. This technique allows you to use your little finger and thus opens up a whole new range of possibilities. Very nice and handy to learn.
